Gregory E. Spey, 64, of Poland, died Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital's Boardman Campus.
Greg was born January 6, 1950, in Philadelphia, a son of Ernest and Ann (Hoge) Spey.
A graduate of Bel Air High School in Bel Air, Md., Greg received his business and accounting degrees from the University of Delaware. After graduating from college, Greg enjoyed a year traveling in Europe.
After his trip abroad, he returned to the states and began his career as a Certified Public Accountant. His former employment included the Cohen and Company and the May Company in Cleveland, where he was a controller. In the early 1980s, Greg founded his own company, Gregory Spey, CPA. Greg was proud to serve his business clients with honesty and integrity.
He was a member of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Greg was a former member of the Northside Kiwanis, where he was the treasurer for many years.
Greg enjoyed spending time with his family - wife, children and grandchildren - vacationing at Topsail Island, N.C., doing crossword puzzles (in pen), and was an avid fan of the Indians, Browns and Buckeyes.
Besides his parents of North Fort Myers, Fla., Greg leaves his wife, Laura Hugenberg Spey, whom he married July 29, 2006; daughter Kadey Spey Adkinson of Floyd, Mont.; son Tyler Spey of Cleveland; step-children Paul (Christine) Hugenberg of Boardman, Christy (Andy) Cox of Peoria, Ariz., Bill (Michelle) Hugenberg of Cincinnati, and Jenny (Jeff) Karzen of Chicago; brothers Stephen (Lisa) Spey of Hoboken, N.J., and Bryan (Mary) Spey of Albuquerque, N.M.; mother-in-law Genevieve Reutter of Chardon; brothers-in-law Jeff (Veronica) Reutter of Westerville and Barry (Judi) Reutter of Willoughby Hills; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two infant children.
Family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8.
