Struthers - Grant E. Brickley, Jr., 89, died Friday, July 26, 2013.
Mr. Brickley was born July 10, 1924 in Austintown, a son of the late Grant E. Brickley, Sr. and Florence Leonhart Brickley.
He was a 1942 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, playing and excelling both in basketball and football. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in accounting from Youngstown University in 1957. Mr. Brickley worked for the Campbell Coke Plant for 38 years, retiring in 1983 as assistant superintendent.
Mr. Brickley enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II, holding the rank of Signalman Second Class. While attending signalman school at the University of Illinois, Grant won the Naval Boxing Championship.
He was a member of the Odd Fellows, the National Management Association, a honorary member of the Alpha Tau Gamma Accounting Fraternity, and was an Assistant Scout Master in Austintown for many years.
One of Mr. Brickley's hobbies included genealogy, finding out the Brickley family were pioneers in the state of Ohio. Along with his wife, Grant was a member of the Mahoning County Genealogy Society.
His other hobbies included building model airplanes and rockets, golfing, bowling, hiking, and fishing. A family man, Grant enjoyed nothing more than his home and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife, the former Beverly Price, whom he married July 29, 1949; two sons, Grant (Norma) Brickley III of Cortland and Jeffrey Brickley of Boardman; two grandchildren, Christopher (Lori) Brickley of Stowe and Melissa Brickley of Cortland; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Sarah Brickley, Lynn and James Brickley, and Lexi Dye; two sisters, Eleanor Lewis of Claremont, FL, and Ruth (Russell) DeSena of Greensburg, PA; brother, Robert Brickley of Sun City, AZ; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will follow at the Four Mile Run Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the services.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form contributions in Mr. Brickley's name to the Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund, 250 Sexton Street, Struthers, Ohio 44471.
