Austintown - Gladys B. Walthers, 99 of Austintown, OH, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 in Assumption Village. Mrs. Walthers was born June 11, 1908 in Youngstown, a daughter of John & Lena (Marstellar) Smith. She was a homemaker and a life long area resident. Mrs. Walthers was a member of the Faith Community Church, where she was a member of the Womens Fellowship, and a member of the Pilgrim Collegiate Church before the two churches merged. She taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Walthers volunteered for the Youngstown Braille Bindery for 30 years, and enjoyed exercising at the Jewish Community Center pool for many years. Her husband Peter John Walthers, whom she married August 1, 1929, died August 3, 1975. She leaves 2 daughters, JoAnn (Cecil) Duffett of Austintown, and Nancy (Lacy) Bryant of Struthers; three granddaughters, Lori Bryant of Delaware, Oh., Janet (John) Howley of Woburn, MA. and Linda (Rod Wood) Bryant of Barberton, OH., and one Great-Granddaughter, Skylar Marie Wood of Barberton, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by four brothers, and three sisters. The family wishes to thank all those people who have enriched Mom's life through their gift of friendship. Our gratitude is especially extended to the special "Angels" who contributed to her care the last few years. Mom will be remembered as a loving, gentle spirit. Funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
