STRUTHERS, OH - Gilda Harshbarger-Picariello, 95, of 52 Overlook Blvd. in Struthers, Ohio, beloved mother of Douglas Harshbarger, passed away December 16, 2009.

She was born in Saugus, MA on April 23, 1914. Gilda was the daughter of the late Frank and Elvera D'Ovidio Ferrini.

After being educated in Italy, Gilda and her late sister, Anne Ferrini DiGianantonio came to Poland, Ohio in 1933 and operated a shoe repair and sales establishment on North Main Street for many years.

Moving to Massachusetts in the 1950's, she worked at Wood Electric in Danvers and retired in 1976.  Gilda and her second husband, the late C. Peter Picariello, whom she married October 22, 1960, died July 1, 2005,  were active in the Italian Community Center in Lynn for many years.  Gilda and her husband enjoyed many trips to Ohio and California over the years.

In 1994, she moved to Florida to be with her son, Douglas Harshbarger. While there, they enjoyed many years of retirement and volunteered with St. Vincent DePaul Society with St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Bayonet Pointe, Florida.

Returning to Ohio in 2006 with her son Douglas, after a long and happy retirement, but in failing health, Gilda moved into Sateri Assisted Living in Boardman.

Gilda is survived by her son, Douglas Harshbarger of Struthers; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas (Jean) Harshbarger of Struthers; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Ohio, California and Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald P. Harshbarger; second husband, C. Peter Picariello; sister, Anne Ferrini DiGianantonio; and daughter, Gilda Marie Harshbarger.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses, doctors and aides at Sateri Assisted Living and also a special thanks to the nurses, doctors and aides at Southern Hospice in Austintown.

Private services were held and burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Poland, Ohio.  A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers.
