Gilbert Dwayne Kuivila

December 8, 1936 — March 28, 2018

Gilbert Dwayne Kuivila, 81, has gone home to be with the Lord March 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Gil was born December 8, 1936 in Painsville, Ohio, son of the late Reino Jacob and Viola Elizabeth (Congos) Kuivila.

He graduated from Painsville Harvey High School in 1954. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He attended DeVey University where he received his degree in electronics. He retired from Republic Steel and after retirement attended Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. He received his degree in technology and worked at Aero Services.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he sang in the Choir, was a member of the Men’s Bible Study and the Men’s Group.

Gil’s hobbies included a passion for airplanes with a license to fly small multi engine airplanes, belonged to IPMS Modelers building detailed model airplanes and cars which he proudly displayed in his "Man Cave" Gil loved bowling, the outdoors including fishing, hunting and feeding birds were among his favorites.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (Nugent-DeMarco) Kuivila whom he married in 1982 and will be sadly missed by his children Christopher (Mary), Kelly (Charles), Karen and Keith, along with Nancy's children, Terri, Tammy (Jeanine Christy), grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Besides his parents, Gil was preceded in death by his only brother, Vernon Frank Kuivila, who passed away February 20, 2017.

A funeral service honoring Gil's life will be held Saturday, March 31, 2018, 12:00 Noon, at the Bethel Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Kidd officiating. Family and friends will be received Saturday from 10:00 a.m until 11:45 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512 or to Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman, OH 44512.
