Gertrude J. Simpson

North Lima - Gertrude Josephine Simpson, 95, of Assumption Village, formerly of Struthers, died Wednesday morning at the Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.

Mrs. Simpson affectionately known as, "Gert", was born April 17, 1917 in Youngstown, a daughter of William and Edna Mathey Osborne.

A 1935 graduate of Boardman High School, Gert worked in accounts receivable for the former Squire Shop in Youngstown for 14 years and then for St. Elizabeth Hospital where she retired in 1983 after 17 years of service. An active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Gert was a member of the Ladies Aid, blanket sewing group and Happy Days. She was also a member of the St. Elizabeth Retiree's Group. Gert loved playing Bingo and cards, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

Her husband Harry R. Simpson, Sr., whom she married July 20, 1939 died August 31, 1998; she leaves one daughter, Karen (Lou) Moon of Boardman; one son, Harry R. Simpson Jr. of Houston, TX; one brother, Harold Osborne of Boardman; two grandchildren, Sherri (Dr. Andrew) Lockshaw of Boardman and Rick Moon of Columbiana; and four great-grandchildren, Michael, Joe, and Ryan Moon and Nick Lockshaw.

Besides her parents and husband, Gert was preceded in death by one daughter, Nancy Simpson; and four sisters, Thelma Gilchrist, Ruth Burkette, Helen Sojo and Ethel Richards.

Gert's family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the wonderful care Gert received from Assumption Village and Hospice House.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 10:30 A.M.the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.

Friends will be received Friday, from 5-7 P.M. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland.

Gert's family request that any contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
