Canfield - Gertrude K. McGarry, 88, of Canfield, formerly of Meadowbrook in Youngstown, died Wednesday morning, October 17, 2018 at the Windsor House in Canfield.
Mrs. McGarry was born November 3, 1929 in Youngstown, a daughter of Frank and Mary Chamer Fedorchak.
A 1947 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Gert was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, it's Altar and Rosary Society and attended St. Anthony Novena every year. For many years, she volunteered at St. Elizabeth Health Center and enjoyed playing in a card club with her friends.
Gert met her husband William "Bill" McGarry at the Idora Park Ballroom in 1947 and they were married May 30, 1949. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Bill's death on December 6, 2007. She leaves three daughters, Diane (Nick) Colla of North Lima, Colleen Tober of Canfield, and Sally Devaney of Columbus; nine grandchildren, Nick (Nadine) Colla, Erica (Steve) Rohan, Kate (Bob) Sanna, Casey Colla, Gary (Jennie) Tober, Daniel (Erin) Tober and Molly, Sara, and Anne Devaney; fourteen great-grandchildren, Jenna and Jimmy Vivo, Nicholas and Lia Colla, Stephen and Luke Rohan, Abigail Colla, Dean, Genevieve, Annabelle, Audrey and William Tober, Salvatore Sanna, and Aubrey Mickolzick.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gert was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Gary Tober; one brother, George Fedorchak; and two sisters, Genevieve Paliga, and Mary Frances Hudak.
Friends will be received Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 8:30 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Carl Kish officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Gert's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care "Trudy" received at Windsor Estate, New Middletown, Windsor House of Canfield and Hospice of the Valley.
