Services will be held Thursday, 11:00am at Calvary Baptist Church in Boardman for Gertrude Host. She went home to be with the Lord March 25 at Shepherd of the Valley Boardman.

Gertie was born July 12, 1916 in Harrisville, West Virginia to Worthy and Ida Clark Garrett. The family moved from Oilridge, West Virginia to Youngstown in 1929.

She graduated from South high School in 1933. During the Depression she was a long- distance operator with Ohio Bell and went on to become a long-distance supervisor. She began working as a dishwasher at Woodrow Wilson High School in 1956. She later became the cafeteria supervisor at East High School and retired as cafeteria supervisor at Woodrow Wilson High School.

Gertie was a member of Eastern Star, Miriam Chapter and the state and local School Employees Retirement System. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Her Husband, George F. Host, whom she married September 16, 1939 passed away Dec. 28, 1998.

Gertie leaves a son, William (Lynette) of Boardman. She also leaves two grandchildren, Judi (Mark) Weaver of Salem and John (Laura) Host of Mineral Ridge; seven great grandchildren, Ianna, Haley, Joshua (Emily), Caleb and Ethan Host, Madison and Logan Weaver, and a great-great grandson, Camden Host.

Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, Donald, Thomas, Robert and Philip Carson Garrett and three sisters, Gypsie Garrett, Anna Belle White, and Catherine Costello.

Friends may call at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 4996 Market St., on Wednesday from 4-7pm and from 10-10:45a.m. on Thursday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be make to the Fellowship Fund of Calvary Baptist Church, 1463 Shields Rd., Boardman, OH 44511.

The Family would like to thank Shepherd of the Valley Poland for making a home for mom over the past 10 years and to the nurses and aids at Shepherd of the Valley Boardman for the their tender loving care.
