Struthers - Gerald Michael Scavnicky, 42, died suddenly on Sunday, February 14, 2016. He was born December 11, 1973 in Youngstown, and was a 1992 graduate of Struthers High School where he excelled at football and baseball.
He was employed as a salesperson for Youngstown Plant and Flower for 23 years. Jerry was a member of Christ our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing Bocce and was a member of the MVR Club, St. Anthony's and the Pacentrani Club. He loved music, was an accomplished drummer and played drums in a band called Bustin' Loose. Jerry enjoyed cooking, canning and making wine. He was an avid sports fan and loved the New York Yankees, New York Giants and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a trustee with the Struthers Baseball League where he also coached his son's team. Jerry also coached his son in the Youngstown Youth Flag Football League and the Northeast Ohio Flag Football League. He could walk into a room of strangers and leave with several friends. Jerry was known for his wonderful smile and great sense of humor. Most of all Jerry loved spending time at home with Annie and Michael and entertaining other family and friends who loved him dearly.
He leaves his loving wife, Annie Vicarel Scavnicky; his son, Michael Scavnicky; his father, Gerald Scavnicky Sr of Boardman; his mother, Patty Lesnak Scavnicky of Struthers; his paternal grandmother, Virginia Scavnicky of Struthers; his brother, Derek (Michelle) Scavnicky of Riverview, FL and their daughter, Brooke; In-laws, Monte and Che Che Vicarel of Poland and two sisters-in-law, Monica (Kelly) Vicarel of Ravenna and their son, Alec and Gina Vicarel of Poland; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Conky and Peggy Lesnak and his paternal grandfather, Mike Scavnicky.
Prayer services will be Friday at 10:15am at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St. Poland, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11am at Christ our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
