Gerald F. "Joe" Marquis, 78
BOARDMAN - Gerald F. "Joe" Marquis, 78, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning at the Hospice House. By grace he was saved through faith in Jesus Christ.
Joe was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Poland, son of Ralph and Gladys Grossen Marquis. He was a lifelong area resident and a 1951 Struthers High School graduate.
He was a Letter Carrier for Struthers Post Office, where he worked for 29 years, before retiring in 1988.
Joe was a member of the Kingdom Community Church in Struthers, where he was head usher. He also served previously as head usher at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Youngstown Saxon Club, and a former member of the Youngstown Ski Club, Struthers A.C., and the Struthers Esquire Club. Joe would meet with the Class 51' on the 2nd Thursday of every month at the Elmton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Korean conflict. He was an avid Browns, Indians and Buckeyes fan.
He is survived by a brother, Gilbert (Margaret Householder) Marquis of Columbus and a brother-in-law, Lester "Dutch" Crittenden of Poland.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Crittenden.
Funeral services will Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Kingdom Community Church, 1006 Fifth St. in Struthers, with Pastor Rusty Wills officiating.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
