Poland - Gerald Leonard Liggett, 75, of Poland, passed away early Christmas morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mr. Liggett, also known as Jay, was born April 18, 1933 in Youngstown, a son of Sherman and Edna Schmidt Liggett. Jay was a 1951 graduate of The Rayen School and was self employed. He was a Deacon and very active at Old North Church. Jay enjoyed attending his grandsons' sports activities and was known as the cheerleader for his grandsons, teammates and even for the other teams. Besides his wife, the former Judy A. Wardle whom he married January 9, 1982, he leaves two daughters, Brenda Madorno and Debbie Liggett-Dixon both of Poland; one son, Mark (Diana) Liggett of North Jackson; two step-sons Greg Corbett of Louisville and Jim Corbett of Austintown; two sisters, Donna (Al) Zullo of Hackettstown, NJ and Shirley (Roland) Doyno of Hamburg, NJ; five grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Dixon, Christina, Stephanie, and Brenda Liggett; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his brother William Liggett. Memorial services will be Monday, December 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Old North Church, with Pastor Tom Fennell officiating.
