George Carl (Barney) Rumberg, Jr., 66 George Carl (Barney) Rumberg, Jr., 66, of 7308 Indian Trail, Poland, passed away Monday morning, September 26th of complications from lung and brain cancer. Born January 3, 1939 in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Carl Rumberg, Sr., he spent his youth in Montana before settling in the Youngstown area in 1950. He graduated from The Rayen School in Youngstown in 1956 and attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio prior to graduating from Youngstown College in 1961 with a degree in chemistry. He was a member of Sigma Chi Epsilon fraternity. He married his high school sweetheart, Constance (Connie) Schuller, also of Youngstown, on October 26, 1957. That same year, he joined the family business, The Mahoning Paint Corporation, to work alongside his father. He was instrumental in designing specialty coatings for industry and plastics. He became President and CEO in 1971, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the National Paint and Coatings Association, the Federation Society for Coatings Technology and the Cleveland Paint and Coatings Association. Civically, Barney was a 25-year member of the Youngstown Rotary, where he served as chairman of the Youngstown Rotary Horse Show in 1974. He was named a director to the Youngstown Chamber of Commerce in 1980. He was also a member of the YMCA and of St. Johns Episcopal Church where he served on the vestry, was Properties Chairman and Youth Group Director. Barney was an avid golfer and enjoyed his annual golf trips with his friends to Pinehurst, North Carolina and to Doral Golf Resort and Spa in Miami, Florida. He rarely missed a Thursday golf outing with his treasured friends at Youngstown Country Club, of which he was a member. He loved fishing with his longtime friend, Al Slagle, and his excursions included trips to Alaska, Montana, Nova Scotia, Ontario and to the French River in Montreal. He also spent much of his time enjoying the company of his family and friends fly fishing at Rockwell Springs Trout Club in Castalia, Ohio. Barney was a loving husband, father and grandfather and masterfully scheduled his winters in Venice, Florida so as not to conflict with his wedding anniversary, Thanksgiving and Christmas, lest he miss the special occasions and holidays with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Connie, daughter Susan R. Flasco (Joe) of Leetonia, son Charles C. of Poland, sister Roberta R. Wittman of Boardman and grandchildren Kristen Olsen, Christopher Olsen, Emma Rumberg, Anna Rumberg, George C. Rumberg III, Constance K. Van Scoter, Joseph Flasco, Isaac Flasco and Lucia Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John W., his daughter Jennifer and brother-in-law William D. Wittman, Sr. There will be calling hours from 4pm-8pm on Thursday, September 29 at Cunningham Becker Funeral Home in Poland. A private, family graveside service shall be held at Riverside Cemetery in Poland on Friday morning. A brunch for family and friends to celebrate his life shall be held at 11am on Sunday, October 2 at the Youngstown Country Club.
