Poland - George Edward Romack, 88, of Poland, died Sunday evening, June 26, 2011 at Masternick Memorial Home in New Middletown.
Mr. Romack was born September 2, 1922 in Sardis, Ohio, the son of the late George A. and Ruth Bowery Romack.
He worked at Republic Rubber for 33 years, retiring in 1980. Mr. Romack was a United States Coast Guard Veteran, proudly serving during World War II from 1943 until being honorably discharged in 1946. He was an anti-aircraft section leader aboard ship.
In his spare time, Mr. Romack enjoyed visiting flea markets, especially Hartville and Rogers Flea Market. He was a man who could fix almost anything and shared his talent with family and friends by always lending his helping hand.
His wife, the former LaVerne Ann Dietz, whom he married April 30, 1949, died August 11, 2010. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Tim) Goehring of Poland and Monica (Bob) Crawford of Lisbon; two sons, Ed (Crystal) Romack and Jim Romack, both of Poland; two sisters, Grace Pemberton of Columbiana and Rachel (Larry) Garchar of Struthers; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Jack Pemberton.
Services will be held Wednesday at noon at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland, where family and friends will be received from 10-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.
