George J. Rider Jr., 87
POLAND - George J Rider Jr., 87 died Feb. 4, 2012, at the Hospice House of Mahoning Valley.
George was born March 18, 1924. in Albany, La., son of George and Teresa Szekeres Rider.
George was a truck driver for Schwebel's Bakery and A&P Markets.
He was an active member of the Holy Family Church, where he served as an usher and an altar server for many years.
Mr. Rider loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and painting. He was known for his meticulously well-kept lawn at his Poland home.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in which he was a Tech 5 Engineer, serving in Europe and the Pacific in World War II.
He leaves behind two sisters, Irma Kanocz and Teresa Ramsey; two sisters-in-law, Betty Gutierrez and Helen Badurik; and several nieces and nephews.
George was a devoted husband of his wife of over 60 years, Dorothy A. (Yakubov) Rider, who preceded him in death. They enjoyed spending time with their family and friends.
A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Family Church. A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
