GEORGE A. PATTERSON
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, August 18, at the Davis Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio, for George A. Patterson, 88, who died Sunday, August 12, at Brookdale Senior Living, after a four-year struggle with dementia. Friends may call from 9-11am. A luncheon will be served following the service.
George was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 18, 1930, son of Monte and Margaret 'Peg' (Timmons) Patterson. The family moved to the Youngstown area in 1942. He graduated from Chaney High School in 1948 and spent four years in the Navy from 1948 to 1952, serving as an AT2 communications specialist in both Virginia and Florida. He began his degree in electrical engineering at Youngstown College in 1953 and graduated from Youngstown University in 1957. George proudly served as an electrical engineer from 1958 to 1993 at General Electric, where his work was excellent and relied upon. George was member, head usher, and finance chair at Mahoning United Methodist Church, where his family worshiped.
George leaves his wife, Jill (Kurtz) Patterson, whom he married on November 5, 1983; niece Pam Mutter and nephew-and-niece twins George Olson and Linda Seka; three stepchildren Lora (Rick) McCombie, Lisa Mariotti, and Roy (Jen) Cherol; five step-grandchildren; and other family members.
George was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sisters and their husbands Norma J. (Richard) Olson and Carol J. (Ronnie) Godecker.
George loved to golf. He was by nature a quiet man, and would occasionally let his mind on an issue be known. But he could also rise to great acts of kindness and giving. And he loved his wife dearly. George and Jill traveled extensively, both on cruises and across the country.
George’s wife and family wishes to thank Cheri Mayle (once again) and the wonderful staff at Home Instead and Brookdale Senior living for their compassionate care.
Family requests that in lieu of flowers, commemoration take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
