George Mochtyak

Poland - George Mochtyak, 92, died Thursday morning, May 10, 2012 at the Hospice House.

Mr. Mochtyak was born July 28, 1919 in Nemecki, Czechoslovakia, a son of George and Elizabeth Keba Mochtyak. He came to the United States to Campbell in 1927 and to Poland in 1935.

He was a 1938 graduate of Poland Seminary High School. Mr. Mochtyak worked as a foreman for Wheeling Pittsburgh in Canfield for 31 years, retiring in 1982.

In 1941, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving during World War II, until being honorably discharged in 1946.

Mr. Mochtyak enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Mahoning Sportmen's Association. After retirement, he also enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Kott, whom he married November 7, 1953; his son, George A. Mochtyak of Boardman and his fiancée, Debra S. Crawford; three sisters-in-law, Theresa Mochtyak of Poland, Louise Kott of Campbell, and Irene (Ray) Till of New Middletown; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Lisa Mochtyak; brother, Joseph Mochtyak; and sister, Marie Mihalov.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 12:45 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church in Campbell. Interment will take place at St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Monday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their appreciation and thank all the doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Reema Taneja and his Hospice nurse, Emma Miles, for the wonderful care and compassion they showed to George.

The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Mochtyak's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
