Poland - George Ansley Mitchell, 96, passed away Friday morning, May 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
George was born January 7, 1928 in Etna, PA, a son of the late Ross Mitchell and Francis (Park) Mitchell.
He graduated from Salem High School in 1946 and attended Youngstown College.
George was a professional engineer for over 70 years. In 1963, he started the George A. Mitchell Company on McClurg Road in Boardman and later, the George A. Mitchell Manufacturing Company in Cookeville, TN, which specializes in the development and manufacturing of a line of push pointers for the tube and pipe industries. In 1999, George and the George A. Mitchell Company received the Tube and Pipe Industry Outstanding Contribution Award from the Tube and Pipe Association International.
George was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman. He was also a member of Tippecanoe Country Club and the Lake Club. George and his wife, Carolynn were awarded the Outstanding Philanthropists in 2019.
George is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Carolynn "Lynn" Bean, whom he married on April 19, 1968; three children, Pamela A. Mitchell of Lawrenceville, NJ, Mark A. (Amy) Mitchell of Hubbard, OH, and Stephen L. Heck of Doyle, CA; his son-in-law, Karl Duerr of Ponce Inlet, FL; three grandchildren, Kristen, Nina, and Ian; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Patricia Logue of Mission Viejo, CA; several nieces and nephews; his good friend, John Klimko of Poland; and four caregivers, Francesca Hodge, Nicole, Ashley, and Madonna.
Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynn D. Duerr; a brother, Robert Mitchell; and his brother-in-law, Bob Logue.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman and on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman. There will be a funeral service on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Reverend Adam Rodgers officiating. Interment will take place at Hope Cemetery in Salem.
