NEW MIDDLETOWN-George J. Lencyk, 72, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 6, 2011 surrounded by his loving family after a valiant struggle with cancer.
He was born on January 26, 1939, the son of the late George and Diana (Mistovich) Lencyk in Campbell. He lived in Youngstown for many years until moving to New Middletown in 2008.
George graduated from Campbell Memorial High school in 1956 and was employed by General Extrusions, retiring after 32 years.
He enjoyed country music and was also an avid Browns fan. He loved walking in Mill Creek Park and did so for many years before moving to New Middletown. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida during the winter and walking the beach and soaking up the sunshine. Another favorite vacation spot was Ocean City, MD.
George received much inspiration and lived by the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference." This prayer enabled him to face many challenges in his life and the last was his courageous battle with cancer and he never voiced any complaints.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Terry (Sunyoung) Lencyk of Seattle, WA; his daughters, Debi (Ransey) Prescott of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Tina Blommer of Struthers, who lovingly tended their dad during his illness; his sisters, Linda (Warren) Dietz of Boardman, Jean Bloom of New Middletown and Nancy (John) Daichendt of Boardman, who all so lovingly tended to his care. He also leaves 6 grandchildren; Brittney and Dave Blommer Jr., of Struthers, Jennifer Robinson, Erica Bredensteiner, and Robin and Holly Prescott; four great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, all of Oklahoma.
The family would like to thank a special niece, Lisa DiLullo, who gave much love and excellent nursing care to her uncle.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Family and friends will be received Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Mr. Lencyk's name to the donor's choice.
