George Grahovac

North Lima - George Grahovac, 89, died March 6, 2018 at Ivy Woods Manor.

Mr.Grahovac was born June 3, 1928 in Youngstown, a son of Lale and Natalija Vujadinovich Grahovac.

George was raised in Serbia where he lived for 20 years. He was a freedom fighter in WWII serving in Yugoslavia with the Chetniks fighting the Nazi Occupation.

He was trained in automotive mechanics while in Serbia. Upon returning to the United States he opened up an auto repair garage on Kenmore Ave. in Youngstown. He was one of the first automatic transmission specialists in the area.

George continued to be self employed for over 30 years as the original owner/operator of G & A Auto Service.

George was active for many years in the Republican party. He was a Reserve Deputy for Sheriff James Traficant and was the Republican candidate for Sheriff of Mahoning County in 1984.

He was a leader and active member of Old Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church in Austintown.

George was a member of Allen Lodge F &AM 276 and was a member of the Youngstown Shrine Club. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and camping.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jane Skipton, whom he married Feb. 12, 1963; one daughter, Sonja (John) Kegley of North Lima; two sons, George Grahovac, Jr. of North Lima and John (Rosanne) Grahovac of Poland; two step-sons, Alan (Patty) Gustafson of North Lima, Jim (Lori) Gustafson of Parkersburg, WV; one step-daughter, Linda (Steve) Barnes of Littleton, CO; one sister, Sonja Tusek of Poland; two brothers, Milan Grahovac of Poland and Rade (Barbara) Flipovich of Indianapolis, IN; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by both his parents.

A Celebration of life will be held Saturday at 11AM at Davidson-Becker Funeral, 11 Spring St., Struthers.

Friends and family will be received Saturday from 10-11AM at the funeral home.
