Kent - George Fogaras, 87, of Cottage Gate in Kent, died Thursday afternoon at Akron City Hospital. George was born April 13, 1919 in St. Michael, Pennsylvania, a son of George and Anna Maxim Fogaras. He lived in Struthers for 50 years before retiring to Kent. A 1937 graduate of Struthers High School, George worked in the Cold Strip for LTV for 31 years, retiring on Black Monday, 1978. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 101st Airborne Division in both D-day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown. Mr. Fogaras leaves his wife the former Susan Maxgay, whom he married June 28, 1947; two daughters, Margaret (Charles) Burkey of Pulaski, PA, and Suzanne (Nelson) Burns of Kent; three sisters, Betsy Medovich of Struthers, Anna Stanko of Salem, and Helen Shirilla of Rocky River, OH; and three grandchildren, Daniel and Matthew Burns and Melissa Burkey. Besides his parents, Mr. Fogaras was preceded in death by an infant brother Johnny, and three sisters, Nancy Kuhn, Pauline Till and Martha Voytilla. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11:30 AM at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Friends will be received Thursday from 9:45 AM until 10:45 AM at the at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers.
