Struthers - George Thomas Caleris, Jr., 54, of Struthers, died Monday, September 1, 2008 at the Hospice House after a 6 year courageous battle with prostate cancer. George was born May 16, 1954 in Youngstown, Ohio, a son of George and Gilda Delino Caleris, Sr. He lived in Lowellville until he was 12 years old and then moved to Struthers. George was a 1972 graduate of Struthers High School and worked as a mail carrier for Lake Milton Post Office. He was a member of the Lowellville Rod & Gun Club, the Mahoning Sportsmen's Club, the NRA, and the Harley-Davidson Owners Group. He was a former member of the Bullmastiff Club and the Amateur Trap Association. George enjoyed washing and riding his Harley, taking care of his yard, making wedding soup, smoking cigars, sitting on his front porch, having 4th of July picnics, and trap shooting. Over the years, he loved his dogs, Shoes, Blue, Iddi, Zac, and Rudy. He leaves his wife and best friend, the former Maryanne Stromp, whom he married September 10, 1977; two brothers, Eugene (Joyce) Caleris, Sr. of Lowellville and Randall Caleris of Boardman; a brother-in-law, John (Sue) Stromp of East Palestine; a sister-in-law, Nancy Stromp of Little Silver, NJ; five nephews, John (Cindy) Caleris of Ellwood City, Pa., Steven (Norma) Caleris of Austintown, Eugene Caleris, Jr. of Austintown, David Caleris of Lowellville, and John Mark Stromp of East Palestine; and his cat, Harley. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" Caleris. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Struthers. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery, Lowellville. Friends will be received Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
