Galas P. Mikolich, 83 North Lima âa�" Galas P. Mikolich, 83, of Glenellen Assisted Living, formerly of Manor Avenue, Poland, died Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mr. Mikolich was born May 25, 1922, in Struthers, a son of Anton and Jennie Pogacnik Mikolich. He was a life-long resident of the Struthers and Poland area. A 1940 graduate of Struthers High School, Mr. Mikolich proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was injured near the French-German border on December 29, 1944 and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Mikolich was a bookkeeper for the Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Office, retiring after 44 years in 1988. He was a former member of Holy Name Society and Knights of Columbus, Struthers Council #4224. He was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Mikolich was an avid card player and enjoyed both poker and 500. Most importantly, he was a devoted father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. His wife the former Anne Suhey, whom he married November 28, 1946, died August 20, 2002. He is survived by a son J. Ronald Mikolich, MD and his daughter in-law, Lynn Mikolich, MD ; two brothers, Emil A. Mikolich and Robert J. Mikolich, both of Struthers; two grandchildren, Marissa Mikolich, DMD and Brandon Mikolich, MD. Besides his parents and wife, Mr. Mikolich was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Drake and an infant brother, William Mikolich. Funeral services will be Monday, 10:00 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home and 10:30 AM at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Struthers. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. The family requests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association, 840 Southwestern Run, Boardman, Ohio 44512 or St. Elizabeth Acute Rehabilitation Unit Fund, 1044 Belmont Ave., Youngstown, Ohio, 44501.
