Struthers - Fredrick Samuel Wildes, 87, of Wilson Street in Struthers, died Monday, January 14, 2008 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mr. Wildes, also known as Fred, was born January 20, 1920 in Barnesville, Ohio, a son of Frank and Octavia Kemp Wildes. Fred came to this area as a teenager and was a graduate of Struthers High School. He worked in the Metallurgic Testing Department at Sharon Steel, retiring after 45 years of service. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II. Fred was a member of the Struthers VFW Post no. 3538, the Lowellville Rod & Gun Club, the United Steel Workers, and various golf leagues. He enjoyed spending his time golfing and hunting. His wife, the former Rose Abbas, whom he married November 18, 1950, preceded him in death on July 17, 2004. He leaves three daughters, Patricia (Butch) Haefke and Jackie Tate, both of Austintown, and Rebecca (Kenneth) Hickman of Youngstown; two sons, Edward (Mary) Wildes and Fredrick (Mary) Wildes, both of Struthers; a sister, Reba Conaway of Massillon; a brother, Jerry (Helen) Wildes of Lowellville; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by his son, David Wildes. Private funeral services were held Wednesday at the Davidson-Becker, Struthers.
