Fredrick J. Tarr, 81 Cortland- Fredrick J. Tarr, 81 of 440 Courtview Drive died Thursday in St. Josephâa�a��s Hospital. He was born October 31, 1923 in Farrell, Pennsylvania a son of Fredrick M. and Irene E. Davis Tarr. He had lived in West Middlesex and Hubbard before moving to Struthers where he lived most of his life. He left Struthers High School to enlist in the Army during WW II serving under Patton in Europe. Upon discharge he returned to school and graduated in 1946. Mr. Tarr worked in Plant Protection with the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company which became LTV, retiring in 1976 after over 32 years. He had been a former member of the Struthers United Methodist Church. In 1969 he ran for Struthers City Council. He was a member of American Legion Post 540 of Cortland and had served as past commander of Post 158 of Struthers. He was a life member of the Mahoning Sportsmanâa�a��s Club of Hillsville, Pennsylvania. He was a former member of the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club. He had served as Scoutmaster of Troop 86 in Struthers and Troop 91 of Hillsville. He leaves his wife, Winifred Jones whom he married February 5, 1946; a son Frederick (Barbara) Tarr of Mineral Ridge; a daughter, Melodee A. (Terry) Chapin of Cortland; five grandsons, eight granddaughters, and six great grandchildren. A brother, Edward J. Tarr is deceased. A memorial service will be at 1:00 PM Monday at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring Street Struthers. Interment will be in the Lowellville Cemetery.
