Struthers - Frank "Tiger" G. Rotz, 78, died October 4, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mr. Rotz was born July 20, 1935 in Youngstown, a son of Louis and Mary Louise Sloan Rotz.
A 1954 graduate of Lowellville High School, Frank played baseball, football, basketball, and track for the Rockets, excelling and lettering in all four of them. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving as an aircraft mechanic from 1954 until his discharge in 1958. While enlisted in the service, Frank was a Golden Glove Boxer.
Mr. Rotz worked as a mechanic for General Electric for 25 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the IUE/CWA Local 734 and previously served as the chief steward for the union. For many years, Frank organized the Union's annual Christmas party for the children.
His interests and hobbies included bowling, golfing, rooting for the Cleveland Indians and Browns, tinkering in his garage, and playing sports with his grandchildren. Frank also loved visiting Niagara Falls and enjoyed many trips there with family and friends. Mr. Rotz also trained and completed a seven mile marathon in the 80's.
He is survived by his wife, the former Jo-Ann Jarko, whom he married October 15, 1960; three daughters, Roxann (Jon) Carroll of Lake City, PA, Rose (Dr. Kenneth) Jenkins of Brecksville, and Terry Rotz of Struthers; brother, Lewis (Jean) Rotz of Lowellville; eight grandchildren, William and Chadd Stephenson, Rachael, Sarah, Kenny, and Jessica Jenkins, and Marsha and William Drabenstadt.
In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Howard, and Charlie Rotz.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will follow at Lowellville Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Frank's name to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Rotz's family would like to express their appreciation and thank Dr. Spratt, Dr. Labib, Dr. Cropp, Dr. Pusateri and the nursing staff of the ICU for the wonderful care they gave to Frank.
