Warren - Frank E. Hassay, 94, formerly of Struthers, died early Friday morning, February 17, 2017 at Community Skilled Health Care Centre in Warren.
Frank was born October 26, 1922 in Youngstown, a son of Andrew and Mary Tuschak Hassay.
He was a 1941 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Youngstown College. Mr. Hassay worked the majority of his career as a salesman with American Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1987.
Mr. Hassay was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers, the National Slovak Society, and Slovak Catholic Sokols.
Frank had a love for the game of golf and made his way to the green two to three times a week when he got the chance. One of his favorite memories was getting a hole-in-one at Mill Creek Golf Course. At the age of 92, while living at Shepherd of the Valley, he had the opportunity to have a Make-A-Wish Day. Frank got to spend a special day at Mill Creek Golf Course, where he received a lesson from a pro golfer and made a par 3! He was also a member of the Sokol Golf League for many years.
Frank also enjoyed traveling, gambling at Mountaineer, woodworking, walking, visiting neighbors, and singing. He loved his family and his grandchildren and always wanted to know how they were.
His wife, the former Helen Granchie, whom he married April 3, 1948, preceded him in death on March 5, 2014. He is survived by three daughters, Paula (Bob) Leon of Warren, Helene Firlik of Bedford, TX, and Frances "Chickie" (Dave) Moorhead of Solon; six grandchildren, Adrianne (Tony) Ross of Charlotte, NC, Robert (Rachel) Leon of Houston, TX, Megan Firlik of Bedford, TX, Joe (Susan) Moorhead of Brecksville, Tiffany (Adam) Scavone of Chicago, and Hillary (Dan) Morrison of Chicago; and 3 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Joe Hassay; and three sisters, Catherine Steiner, Ann Thomas, and Dorothy Baker.
A private memorial service for the family was arranged by the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Inurnment will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Mr. Hassay's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation and thank all of the nurses and staff at Community Skilled Health Care Centre for the wonderful care they gave to Frank.
