BOARDMAN - Frank Gazdik, 96, formerly of Struthers, died at home early Thursday morning, July 3, 2014, after a long illness.
Frank was born October 1, 1917 in Duquesne, PA, a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Stromp) Gazdik. He was raised in Struthers.
Frank served four years in the Army during World War II including two years in India as part of the 6th Army Air Force Radio Intelligence Squadron. After his service he attended Youngstown State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Company in the Engineering Department and retired after 42 years with the company.
After retirement he enjoyed volunteering and playing golf.
He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman for over 40 years.
Besides his wife, Pauline, of 62 years he leaves two daughters, Patricia (Richard) Heilman of Pittsburgh, PA and Barbara Gazdik of Chicago, IL; and three grandsons, Raymond, Paul and Patrick Heilman.
Besides his parents, Frank was preceded in death by four sisters, Elizabeth McKay, Cecilia Gazdik, Ann Price and Helen Gombos; and two brothers, Lewis Gazdik and John Gazdik.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frank's honor to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, 10:00 AM at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman. Entombment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown with military honors.
Friends and family will be received Sunday from 2-4 PM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers, and Monday from 9-9:45 AM at St. Charles Church prior to Mass.
