Frances Catherine Timko

Frances Catherine Timko, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 23, 2024, at Aventura at Assumption Village, after living with dementia for seven years. 

Frances, affectionately known as Fran, the third eldest of eleven children, was born June 3, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Frances Yarnevich Zamary.

She was raised in Youngstown and attended Sacred Heart Grade School and was a graduate of Ursuline High School, Class of 1953. 

Fran married her husband, Gerald Timko, on September 10, 1959 and they made their home in Struthers, and later, Poland, Ohio. Together, they owned and operated the Isaly's store in Poland where Fran also worked as the cashier. She also taught one year at her alma mater, Sacred Heart. After Isaly's Fran worked at Giant Eagle and Sparkle Market. Fran loved to bake for her family, especially pie sheets and lamb cakes! 

Fran was a member of the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary and the American Business Women's Association. She was a former member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Church where she was active with the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, the Women's Group and the Couples Club. She was a currently a member of Holy Family Church in Poland.

After 54 years of marriage, her husband, Gerald passed away on February 28, 2013. Fran leaves three daughters, Nancy (Alan) Papa of Hudson, OH, Diane (Bill) Closser of Jacksonville, FL, and Debbie Timko of Upper St. Calir, PA; one son, Jim Timko of Poland; two sisters, Bernice DeVito, and Carol (Dan) Ornelas; four brothers, John Zamary, Thomas Zamary, Robert (Joan) Zamary, and Charles (Carol) Zamary; six grandchildren, Samantha (Gordy) Siefring, Anthony (Kristy) Papa, Sydney Closser, Will Closser, Warren Timko, and Jenna Timko; and four great-grandchildren, Paul and Gigi Siefring, and Zander and Zoe Papa. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Fran was preceded in death by four brothers, Fr. Joseph, Frank Jr., James, and Edward Zamary.

Friends will be received Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland where a Prayer Service will be held Monday, October 28, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Poland. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lowellville, Ohio.

Fran's family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff who provided her care at Special Care Unit for the last two and half years and to the Hampton Woods staff who cared for her the previous two and a half years. Thank you!
