Youngstown âa�" Frances A. Mitchell, 93, of Youngstown, died Sunday, June 17, 2007 at Park Vista. Mrs. Mitchell was born Saturday, June 21, 1913 in Springdale, PA, a daughter of George E. and Diana Swanton Alter. She came to this area in 1948. She was a 1930 graduate of Winchester School in Pittsburgh. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Pennsylvania College for Women in 1934 and her Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Technical College in 1935. Mrs. Mitchell was employed at United States Steel Company in Industrial Relations from 1936 until 1948. Mrs. Mitchell was a member and past president of the Youngstown Junior League, member and past president of the Womenâa�a��s Board of the Youngstown Hospital Association for 30 years, and a member of the Youngstown Hospital Association Board of Directors for 8 years. She was a member of âa�A"The Group,âa�A� The Butler Institute of American Art, the Youngstown Club, and the Youngstown Country Club. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of St. Johnâa�a��s Episcopal Church. Her husband, James Edward Mitchell, whom she married November 24, 1948, died September 2, 2003. She leaves one son, George O. (Lisa) Mitchell of Miami, FL; two grandchildren, James E. Mitchell and George O. Mitchell; ten nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and dear friend and caregiver, Dolores M. Kish. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by two brothers, David Alter and George Alter, Jr., and one sister, Kathleen Elder. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the Howard Carpenter Memorial Chapel at Poland Riverside Cemetery where interment will follow.
