Boardman - Florence Elizabeth Carlson, 100 of Boardman, Ohio, died Saturday July 13, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Carlson was born July 28, 1918 in Jamestown, NY, daughter of Harry and Emma (Olson) Swan.
She was 1936 Jamestown High School graduate. Mrs. Carlson worked as a stenographer and secretary at Art Metal Cabinet Makers in Jamestown for 5 years, then went to be secretary of the Vice President at the Chautauqua County Bank in Jamestown. After her marriage, she became a dedicated homemaker and was a bookkeeper for her family business, Storm Electric. On November 9, 1946 she married Arthur Andrew Carlson at Zion Mission Church in Jamestown and came to Youngstown. He passed away November 3, 2000 after 54 years of marriage. Lifelong member of First Covenant Church, the choir, Rip n' Roller missions, Christian Builders Church Group, Prayer Shawl Group, Lycklig Women's Club, Supper Club, and a devoted worker at the church's Lucia Festival. Florence loved to bake, especially breads and rolls, golfing with her husband and son, knitting, singing old Christian songs, and overjoyed seeing her granddaughters and their growing families.
Florence leaves her daughter, Kathleen Ann (Greg) Anstrom of Boardman; two grandchildren, Shelli (Justin) Koenig of Canton, GA and Jessica (Jim) Baker of Oahu, Hawaii. She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Mary, Clara Rae and Henry John Koenig and Ansel Lewis Baker.
Besides her parents and her husband, Florence was preceded in death by her son, Douglas Arthur Carlson; three sisters, Helen Gustafson, Marian Applequist and Dorothy Noyd, as well as two brothers, Floyd and Duane Swan.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday July 19, 2019 at First Covenant Church in Boardman with Pastor Thomas Sharkey officiating. Friends may call from 10-10:45 AM prior to the services at the church. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions take the form of donations to the Salvation Army .
