Evelyn Dorothy Democko, 88, a life long resident of Struthers, died Wednesday afternoon, April 17, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Evelyn was born April 15, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Marie Petrus Ceplece.
A graduate of Struthers High School, Evelyn married her high school sweetheart, Charles Democko on July 8, 1950 and they made their home in Nebo. Evelyn and Charlie, along with his business partner and family, built D&S Sales in Boardman and Evelyn served in many capacities whenever needed on day to day activities.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Evelyn cherished her role as a homemaker. She was most happy providing a loving and nourishing home for her family. She and Charlie enjoyed surrounding themselves with family and being active in their grandchildren's lives. Evelyn's baking skills were superb and her family always looked forward to her freshly baked cinnamon rolls and pepperoni rolls which she often delivered to their doorstep. Evelyn was also an accomplished seamstress and excelled at crochet. A member of a card club, Evelyn enjoyed their meetings with her lifelong friends.
Evelyn was deeply loved for her selflessness and devotion to her family. During her husband's illness of over 40 years, she provided selfless care and comfort and was always his rock. Evelyn and Charlie attended church daily and were members of Christ Our Savior Parish at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Struthers. Evelyn volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth Hospital to share her devotion and her strong faith in God sustained her and was the source of her strength.
Her husband Charlie, of over 58 years, died April 26, 2009; Evelyn leaves her two daughters, Karen (Tim) Munroe of Poland and Christine (Bill) Reimann of San Antonio, TX; three sons, Chuck (Drew) Democko of San Francisco, CA, Rick (Kim) Democko of Hubbard and Philip Democko at home; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Shauna, Ryan, Brennan, Justin, Ashley, Kevin and Chip; and two great-grandchildren, Draven and Evelyn.
