LOWELLVILLE-Eugene Walkama, 97, died early Tuesday morning, July 10, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mr. Walkama was born January 12, 1915 in Lowellville, a son of Eero and Esther Nemi Walkama.
He was a 1933 graduate of Poland Seminary High School. Mr. Walkama was drafted into the United States Army, serving during WWII. After being honorably discharged, he worked as a stationary engineer for Ohio Edison, retiring in 1980.
Mr. Walkama enjoyed vegetable gardening and reading.
He leaves his wife, the former Loretta Arnold, whom he married October 13, 1945; two daughters, Linda Walkama and Donna Walkama of Poland; four sons, Robert Walkama of Poland, Wayne (Diane) Walkama of Poland, Alan (Nancy) Walkama of Salem, and James (Marsha) Walkama of Poland; and eight grandchildren, Lynzie, Gary, Jessica, Abby, Annalise, Allie, Madison, and Harrison.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jacob Walkama and sister, Lillian Walkama.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will follow at Lowellville Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
