Struthers - Eugene Michael Rock, 59, with his unique sense of humor, "kicked the bucket" on Thursday, September 1, 2011.
Gene was born January 25, 1952 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Margaret Hlad Rock.
A longtime resident of Struthers, he attended Struthers Schools and Youngstown State University receiving his Emergency Medical Technician certification.
He first worked for Kirila Funeral Home as an EMT for several years, then for International Mill Service as a welder, and lastly as a truck driver for Anchor Motor Freight in Lordstown. He was a member of the Million Mile Club for his many miles of truck driving.
Gene was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran serving during Vietnam as a medic, and he volunteered with the Mahoning County Veterans Outreach Program.
He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where he was a lead sponsor, and a member of Word of Grace Church. A music man, Gene loved country music, singing, playing the guitar on his front porch, and writing songs. He also enjoyed playing chess on the computer, ebaying, restoring and working on Harley Davidsons, and riding his motorcycle with friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Erin (fiancé, Mike Marshall) Rock of Myrtle Beach, SC and Sara (Daniel) Ferreri of Poland; son, Zachary Rock of Pittsburgh; two grandchildren, Aaron Rock and Tyler Ferreri; brother, Kenneth (Mary) Rock of Apollo, PA; two nephews, Joseph (Emily) Rock of NJ and Phil Rock of Pittsburgh; his former wife, Linda Rock; and his two beloved cats, Bozo-Rocious Alouisious Eugene Michael Rock AKA Roosevelt and Cal-Cal Kitty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved cat, Pookie.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland with Pastor Craig Wade officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
