Eugene R. "Skip" Pompeii

Struthers - Eugene R. "Skip" Pompeii, 72, of Struthers, died Sunday afternoon, May 25, at Valley Care Northside Medical Center with his family at his side.
Skip was born June 6, 1941 in Youngstown, a son of Eugene Daniel and Grace Liguore Pompeii.
He was a life-long resident of Struthers with the exception of residing in Poland his Junior and Senior year of high school. Skip attended Struthers High School and graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1959. He also attended Kent State University. After leaving Kent State, Skip served in the National Guard.
Skip worked as a District Sales Representative for Nucor for the Vulcraft Division for 30 years, retiring in 2006. Prior to New Corp, Skip was a sales representative for Republic Steel in the Joist and Deck Division for 15 years.
Known for his generosity and extending a helping hand, Skip was a woodworking craftsman and assisted many people with building home additions. After retirement, he enjoyed expanding his cooking skills and trying his own recipes with pizzas, bread, rolls, and smoking meats. He loved and hated the Cleveland Browns, loved his corvette and coffee time with his friends at Panera's. His friends and family were his life and Skip was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
He was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
Skip leaves his wife, the former Patricia Barone, whom he married August 5, 1967; two daughters, Tina (Craig) Hemminger of Hubbard and Nicole (Keith) Dlwgosh of Poland; daughter in law, Amy Pompeii of Columbus; two grandchildren, Gino and Gabrielle; two sisters, Loretta (John) Parimuha of Columbus and Rebecca Saletra of Knoxville, TN; and one brother, Ricardo (Christine) Pompeii of Struthers, OH.
Besides his parents, Skip was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Pompeii.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 11:00 AM at Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church with Fr. John Jerek officiating. Entombment will follow at a later date at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
Friends will be received Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main Street, Poland, where a Prayer Service will be held Friday at 10:15 AM.
