Eugene S. Miller
YOUNGSTOWN Eugene S. Miller, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
Eugene was born Nov. 21, 1932, in Fairmount City, Pa., a son of Homer and Twila (Bish) Miller.
He was a 1949 graduate of Red Bank Valley High School in New Bethlehem, Pa.
Eugene worked as a brakeman for P&LE Railroad, retired as an independent truck driver for Tajon Trucking and was also a safety director for Dart Trucking. Eugene was a 32nd degree Mason with Youngstown Lodge No. 615 F.&A.M. as well as a past master involved with the Aut Mori Grotto and Youngstown Shrine Club.
He enjoyed mechanics and restoring vintage vehicles and avidly enjoyed boating and fishing with family and friends.
Besides his parents, Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen
(Nellie) Dewitt-Miller and his youngest daughter, JoAnn Miller-Kloos.
He leaves behind his companion and friend of the last 15 years, Ms. Ethel Krantz of Venice, Fla.
Surviving him are his daughters, Laura Keltz of New Springfield and Paula Barany of Boardman; his son, Stanley Miller of Monaca, Pa.; a stepson, Gerald Kaufman of Campbell; sisters, Janet Shumaker of Shannondale, Pa. and Mary Jane Carrier of Hermitage, Pa., as well as Elaine Hartley of Lake Wales, Fla.; his brother, Clair Miller of Fairmount City, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at Davis-Becker Funeral Home at 8536 Market St. in Boardman.
Calling hours are also being held Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the New Springfield Church of God, 3949 E. Garfield Road in New Springfield, followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.
Mr. Miller was always one to help others and put their needs before his own.
He will always be remembered for his strength, intelligence and unwavering love and protection for his family and friends.
