Youngstown - Eugene "Gene" R. Lynch, 83, died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Friday evening, August 23, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Lynch was born October 19, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of Michael and Sarah Fitzgerald Lynch.
He was a 1947 graduate of The Rayen School and after high school served in the United States Army. Mr. Lynch first worked for General Electric Supply for 15 years and retired from the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier after 25 years of service.
An avid sports fan, Gene enjoyed cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Gene previously played for numerous teams in the Youngstown Fast Pitch Softball League. He also enjoyed trips to casinos.
He leaves his wife, the former Donna J. Stainbrook, whom he married June 3, 1955; two sons, Thomas Lynch and Jack (Gail Matuz) Lynch, both of Boardman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and William Lynch; and sister, Marjorie Fitzgerald.
Services will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 4:45-6:45 p.m. at the funeral home, prior to the services.
