GOODYEAR, ARIZ. - Ethel Louise Vincent, 87, formerly of Boardman and Cleveland, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2017, at home in Goodyear.
Ethel was born Dec. 17, 1929, in New Castle, Pa., a daughter of Louis and Julia (Dietrich) Taylor.
She was raised in Youngstown. She was a 1948 graduate of South High School and went on to receive her B.A. in Education from Ohio University in Athens, where she studied from 1948 to 1952. After graduation, she and her husband made their home in the Cleveland area, where they raised their three sons.
Ethel was employed as an elementary and preschool teacher, working in both the Cleveland and Youngstown areas throughout her career.
In 2003, she retired and moved back to the Youngstown area to take care of her mother. She resided in Boardman until September of 2015, when she relocated to Goodyear to live with her son and daughter-in-law. Ethel was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown. In her free time, she greatly enjoyed her devoted family and friends, planting flowers and gardening, travel, reading, movies, watching Downtown Abbey, and attending local art/music events and WW II history meetings in Youngstown. As a young girl, she loved to play the piano. As an adult she loved being around young children. She remained lifelong friends with classmates from both elementary and high school. She was very proud to be from Youngstown, a graduate of South High School and Ohio University, and also was a fan of both Youngstown State and Ohio State University football. She enjoyed attending Cleveland Indians Spring training with family in Goodyear. Ethel made many new friends while in Arizona.
Her husband, Thomas Vincent, whom she married on Feb. 8, 1953, preceded her in death in 1984.
Ethel is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Monica) Vincent of Goodyear and Bruce Vincent of Boardman.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by her son, Scott Vincent; and her brother, Thomas Taylor.
A funeral service be held Friday at noon at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St. in Boardman Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Boardman.
Friends and family will be received Friday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial tributes in the name of Ethel L. Vincent can be made to the American Stroke Association or Zion Lutheran Church.
