Poland - Ethel M. Richards, 78, of Poland, died Saturday morning, May 8, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Richards was born December 17, 1931 in Boardman, a daughter of John W. and Edna L. Mathey Osborne.
She was a 1950 graduate of Boardman High School. After graduation, she moved to Cleveland for two years and worked as a bookkeeper at Ferro Enamel. Mrs. Richards returned home in 1952 and started working for Commercial Shearing & Stamping until 1956. In 1974, she went to work at Union National Bank, retiring in 1994 from Bank One.
Mrs. Richards was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church and held many positions there including financial secretary of the church and treasurer of the Poland-Boardman Child Care Center. She was also a member of the Daphne Garden Club, Garden Forum, Ruth Shrine No. 64 of Poland, and the Columbiana Chapter No. 428 Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Richards dedicated her time and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross.
She leaves her husband, Robert E. Richards, whom she married May 21, 1955, two sons, Robert E. Richards Jr. and David L. Richards, Sr., both of Poland; a sister, Gertrude E. Simpson of Boardman; a brother, Harold (Marie) Osborne of Boardman; four grandchildren, David L. Richards Jr. and Jason R. Richards, both of Poland and Jaclyn J. Richards and Melissa J. Richards, both of Matthews, North Carolina; and her daughter-in-law, Nancy L. Richards of Matthews, North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas J. Richards; and three sisters, Thelma M. Gilchrist, Ruth V. Burkette, and Helen J. Soja.
Services will be held Saturday, May 29th, at 11 a.m. at the Poland United Methodist Church.
