Esther Irene Thompson

Boardman- Esther Irene Thompson, 95, died Friday afternoon, April 18, 2014 at the Vista Center in Mineral Ridge.

Esther was born December 11, 1918 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of John and Bessie Hoover Thompson and one of eleven children.

She was a graduate of South High School, Class of 1938. After graduation, she worked at General Fireproofing for 12 years. In 1954, Esther attended beauty school and became a licensed hairdresser. She was also a part of the family business, John Thompson & Sons Used Cars, from 1937 to 1988. The business was started by her father who was a horse trader and had run a livery. Esther resided in the family home across from the dealership on Indianola Ave. for years until moving to Boardman to make her home. For the last several years, she lived at the Commons at the Greenbriar and this past year at the Vista Center in Mineral Ridge.

She was a 80 year member of the former John Knox Presbyterian Church in Youngstown. Esther, along with her lifelong companion and fiancé, Albert Jimro, volunteered at Trinity Fellowship Church making burden bears for the sick and attended the senior group at Highway Tabernacle. She was a 50 year member of the Calon Lan Welsh Club, St. David's Society, the Order of the Eastern Star Miriam Chapter No. 278, receiving her 50 year membership pin in 2005, and played in several bridge clubs.

Esther will be remembered as a person who loved having a good time and always having a smile on her face. She was looking forward to being with her family and Savior in Heaven.

Esther is survived by three nieces and six nephews, including nieces Gwen Hilston of Warren and Susan (Don) Parker of Austintown, who were her caregivers the last five years.

In addition to her parents and fiancé, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, John Jr., Albert, Lawrence, Paul, Edward, Howard and Warren Thompson; and three sisters, Hazel and Sadie Thompson and Ruth Morrison.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the new Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Family and friends will be received on Monday from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.

Esther's family would like to express their appreciation and thank the Vista Care Center for the wonderful care and compassion they gave to her this past year.
