Youngstown - Esther Lucille Blice, 91, a resident of Brownlee Woods for over 60 years, died Wednesday afternoon, November 16, 2011 at Park Vista Retirement Center.
Mrs. Blice was born April 10, 1920 in Whetstone Twp., Ohio, a daughter of Edwin and Laura Riddlebaugh Phillips.
She was a graduate of Iberia High School. Mrs. Blice worked as a switchboard operator for Dollar Bank, retiring in 1987, and was a member of the Dollar Bank Retirees. She also was a hairdresser for over 30 years in the area and in the 50's and 60's owned her own beauty shop at her home in Brownlee Woods, Blice Beauty Shop.
Mrs. Blice was a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church for over 70 years. Within the church, she was a lay reader, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, collected aluminum cans to help raise funds for the church, and was a member of its Phoebe Circle. She was also a member of TOPS and enjoyed quilting and traveling.
Her husband, Paul H. Blice, whom she married April 24, 1942, died August 23, 1994. She leaves two daughters, Susan (Joseph) DiLoreto of Poland and Major Christine (Mark) Blice-Baum, U.S.A.F., currently serving in South Korea; four sisters, Laura Phillips of Arcadia, CA, Jeanette Rivers of Fort Wayne, IN, Lois (Donald) Rinehart of Galion, OH, and Carol (Loren) Welch of Lexington, OH; brother, Ernest (Helen) Phillips of Crestline, OH; four grandchildren, Kara (Jason) Clark of Poland, Daniel DiLoreto of Poland, Stephen Blice-Baum of Greenville, SC, and Anna Blice-Baum of Pittsburgh, PA; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Julia Clark.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Nelson-Seger, Mildred Schiedler, and Bertha Beckal; and a brother, Gerald Phillips.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive, Youngstown. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Mrs. Blice's family would like to express their appreciation and thank the staff at Park Vista for making a wonderful home for Esther for the past 2 1/2 years and Hospice of the Valley for their loving and wonderful care given to Esther over the past few months.
