Erla M Magni

May 5, 1940 — December 1, 2013

Poland - Erla M. Magni, 73, of Poland, died early Sunday morning, December 1, 2013 at the Cleveland Clinic with her family by her side.

Erla was born May 5, 1940 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Georgetta Davis Welker.

Erla was a 1958 graduate of The Rayen School. Before her marriage Erla attended St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and was currently a licensed cosmetologist.

Erla's greatest joy was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. While raising her children, Erla was active in the Paul C. Bunn PTA, the Girl Scouts, Camelot and Wedgewood Bowling Leagues, and the Mill Creek Garden Club. Erla was currently active as trustee of her condo association, working for the Election Polls and as a committee member of the The Rayen School, Class of 1958. Erla also enjoyed spending time with "the girls" playing cards.

Not being of Italian Heritage herself, Erla learned quickly from her mother-in-law how to prepare superb Italian recipes, as many people stated, "she should open her own restaurant." A gourmet cook and baker, Erla's dishes were like out of a magazine. She was featured for canning tomatoes and homemade soups for The Vindicator's Cook of the Week article. She was also excellent at crocheting and knitting, and enjoyed teaching and sharing with her children and grandchildren her special talents of cooking, baking, knitting, and crocheting, leaving many gifts for her family to treasure.

A charter member of St. Luke Catholic Church, Erla was a past member of its' Infant Jesus of Prague.

Erla leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 53 years, Richard Magni, Sr., whom she married July 16, 1960; three children, Michele (Bruce) Ciccone of Poland, Richard (Jane) Magni, Jr., of Hilliard, and Kathleen (Sante) Valentini of Poland; one sister, Kay Commings of Youngstown; seven grandchildren, Bruce Ciccone, Jr. of New Albany, and Stephanie and Brian Ciccone of Poland, Matthew and Lauren Magni of Hilliard, and Kristi and Kasey Valentini of Poland; several nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew, Lori & Roland (Alayne) Commings, whom she loved like her own children; brother-in-law, Robert (Carol) Magni of Poland; and special cousins and dear friends.

Besides her parents, Erla was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Louis and Sarah Magni, and brothers-in-law, Donald Commings and Samuel (Theresa) Magni.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 10:00 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Fata officiating. Entombment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home Poland, where a Prayer Service will be held Thursday at 9:15 AM.

Erla's family requests any gifts go to St. Luke Catholic Church, 5235 South Ave., Boardman, OH 44512 or to the March of Dimes 5425 Warner Road, Suite 10, Cleveland, Ohio 44125.
