Struthers - Emma Jean Skovira, 82, died early Monday morning, July 22, 2013 at Pembrooke Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Skovira was born January 28, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of Amato and Gesilda (Torello) Tisone.
She was a 1949 graduate of The Rayen School. After raising her family, she worked as a clerk for Burlington Coat Factory from 1985 through 1995 and then for Value City until their closing.
She was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers. While her sons attended school at St. Nicholas, Emma was a member of the Moms and Dads Club, the Altar and Rosary Society, and volunteered for many of the activities at the school. Throughout the years, she also volunteered for St. Columba Cathedral.
A dedicated homemaker, Mrs. Skovira loved being with her family, always looking forward to cooking for them on holidays and dinner on Sundays. Emma also enjoyed getting together with her girlfriends for her monthly card club.
Her husband, Thomas S. Skovira, whom she married April 30, 1949, died February 4, 2013. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Skovira of Struthers and Kenneth (Deborah) Skovira of Largo, FL; sister, Florence Brown of Parma; two grandchildren, Adam (Gina) Skovira of Struthers and Zachary(Ashley) Skovira of Hillsborough, NC; great-granddaughter, Zoey Skovira of Hillsborough and two great-grandchildren on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Emma was preceded in death by two sisters, Eva Constantine and Ergilia "Midge" Lisko; and two brothers, Albert and Rocco Tisone.
A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
