Canfield - Emma G. Mason, 95, formerly of Brownlee Woods, died Sunday morning, November 8, 2015 at her home, surrounded by family.

Mrs. Mason was born February 13, 1920 in Youngstown, a daughter of Daniel and Gertrude O'Dea Kautz.

She was a 1937 graduate of Chaney High School. On March 3, 1945, she married Robert E. Mason, Sr., at Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church and became a dedicated homemaker. Emma had two children and was very active in their activities as they were growing up, acting as a Cub Scout Pack Leader, a Girl Scout Leader, and was involved in the PTA.

After raising her children, Emma decided to continue her education and attended Youngstown University. She graduated in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education, graduating cum laude. Mrs. Mason worked as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for Monroe Elementary School in Youngstown for 7 years. She continued to work as a substitute teacher for Youngstown Christian School for many years.

Emma was a longtime member of the American Association of University Women, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Northeastern Ohio Educators Association, and was part of a neighborhood monthly card club for many years.

She was a dedicated member of Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church since the age of 19. Throughout the years, Emma was extremely involved in many of the church's activities and various groups. She was also well known by the congregation for her delicious apple cake, which she was so often asked to bring to meetings and functions.

Emma was artistically gifted, and enjoyed painting watercolors and resin figures, and gardening. Emma enjoyed doing sewing and embroidery work. She won blue ribbons for her embroidery work and gifted special pieces to each grandchild. She also knew her way around the kitchen and will be remembered for many of her wonderful dishes.

Her husband, Robert, preceded her in death on November 16, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Mason of Canfield; son, Robert E. "Bud" (Betty) Mason Jr. of Martinsburg, WV; sister-in-law, Barbara Kautz of Clarence, NY; five grandchildren, Deidre (James) Larreau of St. Petersburg, FL, Christine (Craig) Duster of Denver, CO, Chad (Michael Regina) Mason of Cleveland, John (Leslie) Tant of Oak Hill, VA, and Carrie (Jason) Montgomery of Austintown; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Emma was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Opal Kautz, II, and brother, Henry Kautz.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, November 22nd, 2015 from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, where a memorial service will follow Sunday at 1:30 p.m. A dinner will follow the service for all in attendance at the Becker Family Center located on the lower level of the funeral home.
