Emily A. Berendt, 88, died December 24, 2017 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Mrs. Berendt was born October 10, 1929 in Youngstown, a daughter of Park and Mable Widdersheim.
She was a 1947 graduate of The Rayen School. Emily was a sales clerk at Sears in Boardman. She was a member of New Life Lutheran Church in Liberty.
Emily was in the Bedford Beauties golf league at Bedford Trails as well as a Mill Creek golf leagues. She was an avid golfer and had two hole in ones. She was also in a bocce league at Mt. Carmel in Lowellville on the Becker Funeral Home team.
Emily also enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and going to casinos, and volunteered at the Hospice House.
Her husband Martin Richard Berendt, whom she married March 20, 1948, died Aug. 10, 2013.
She is survived by one son, Martin (Linda Wittenauer) Berendt Jr. of Youngstown; one daughter, Cheryl (Andrew Johnson) Berendt of Youngstown; one sister, Mable of Newton Falls; two grandchildren, Valerie (Jeff) Rainer of Rootstown and Daniel (Molly) Berendt of Poland; four great-grandchildren, Macey Rainer, Tyson Rainer, Cadence Berendt, and Kilaney Berendt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Emily was preceded in death by siblings, Gail, Sally, and Bill.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Lutheran Church, 1181 Churhill Hubbard Rd., Liberty, 44505, Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Chelsea Spencer officiating.
Friends and family will be received prior to the service from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the church.
The family requests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions made payable to Cheryl Berendt, but ask that they be sent in c/o Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers, OH 44471. The family is planning on using the contributions to have a memorial donated to the Hospice House and the Kidney Foundation in Emily 's memory.
