Emilie LaBarre Hune

February 16, 1927 — December 9, 2013

Poland - Emilie LaBarre Hune, 86, passed away at home on December 9, 2013 surrounded by her family.

Emilie was born February 16, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, a daughter of Dr.N.M. and Glada LaBarre.

A 1945 graduate of Marietta High School, Emilie attended Ohio Wesleyan University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. She worked as an intern at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston and later worked at Timken Mercy Hospital in Canton and the former Southside Hospital in Youngstown.

She was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church for nearly 45 years, where she was active in their Prayer Shawl Ministry. Emilie knit over 200 shawls for family members, friends, and neighbors.

Emilie's husband and high school sweetheart, Larry Eugene Hune, whom she married on October 18,1952, passed away January 5, 2007. She is survived by three daughters, Mary Grace Hune (Marc Zolnier) of Branchburg, NJ, Betsy (Roger) Kalter of Marietta, and Carol Ann (Charles) Serenko of New Middletown; four grandchildren, Catherine (Tom) Ruminski of Medina, Carolyn (Eric) Fender of Poland, Megan Zolnier of Princeton, NJ, and Robert Hune-Kalter of Marietta; one great-grandson,Carter Ruminski; one brother, Dick LaBarre of Marietta and one sister, Libby Osbourne of Loveland; special neighbors, Brian, Vanessa, Sophia and Alex D'Angelo along with many loving friends.

Emilie enjoyed family, friends, knitting, playing bridge, neighborhood visits on her side porch, baking and eating Belgian gauflettes, Friends of the Poland Library and coffee dates at Starbucks and Wittenaur's with her daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

There are no services or calling hours. Emilie will travel to Marietta in her 1976 Cadillac El Dorado Convertible, purchased for her 83rd birthday, and will be interred at a later date at Mound Cemetery in Marietta.
