Youngstown- Elmer J. Koran, 95, died February 27, 2014 at the Hospice House.
Elmer was born November 25, 1918 in Youngstown, a son of John and Elizabeth Sano Koran.
He was a graduate of Chaney High School, worked at Fort Hayes in Columbus and was a mailman before entering the United States Army. He served three years in Europe as a cryptographer during World War II. After the war he worked at US Steel and later retired from Republic Steel. He was a member of Faith Community Covenant Church and the Chatterbox Club. He loved dogs, feeding birds, swimming, beautiful music, traveling, gardening, and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Ohio State fan.
He leaves behind his wife, the former Dorothy Lundy, whom he married Feb. 28, 1947, and would have celebrated 67 years of marriage; two sons, Dale (Martha) Koran of Houston and John Koran of Landover, MD; one daughter, Charlotte (Ron) Abblett of Canfield; three grandsons, Jaime Koran, Ian and McKenzie (Becki) Abblett; one granddaughter, Michelle (Phil) Rush; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Louise Kinn.
Besides his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel; and a brother, Bill.
A memorial service will be held at Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Tuesday at 4:00 PM with Rev. Michael Zabel officiating.
Friends and family will be received 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
