Elmer E. Haidle

Poland - Elmer E. Haidle, 88 of Poland, OH, died Tuesday morning at Valley Care Health Systems, the former Forum Health.

Elmer was born August 17, 1922 in Greenock, PA, a son of Alvin and Mary Jane Carnahan Haidle.

A graduate of McKeesport High School, Elmer received his Associates degree from Western Reserve University. He was a self employed Food Broker and an insurance agent for Bankers Life and Casualty.

An Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, Elmer served in the 339th P-51 Fighter Group as a fighter pilot.

He was a former member of the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Trustee. Elmer attended Poland Village Baptist Church.

Elmer was a member and treasurer of the former Youngstown Lodge F & AM 615 which is now Wick Lodge F & AM 418. A 32nd degree Mason of the Valley of Youngstown Scottish Rite, Elmer was a member of the SYRIA Shrine Temple of Pittsburgh, the Aut Mori Grotto, and the Poland Breakfast Club. He was past president of the Boardman AARP.

Elmer was an excellent golfer with a 1 handicap. He had three hole-in-ones, and was Club champion at Fonderlac Country Club for several years. He was a member of numerous golf leagues including The Boulevard Golf League, Argus Golf League, Poland Breakfast Club Golf League, and the Brownlee Woods Presbyterian Church Golf League.

Elmer loved his family and enjoyed watching his grandsons play sports and attending his granddaughter's dance recitals.

His wife the former Dorothy Soles whom he married August 31, 1942, died August 9, 1998; Elmer leaves Helen Sutherland of Poland; three daughters, Marsha (Robert) Stas and Marlene Stamp, all of Youngstown, and Melanie (John) Vallinger of Poland; and four grandchildren, Amy (Thomas) Hackstedde, Aaron (Sylvia) Stamp, Tyler and Trent Vallinger; six great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Logan, and Cameron Hackstedde, and Aidan Constantine, and Arianna Stamp; one brother-in-law William Soles of McKeesport, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents and wife, Elmer was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Haidle.

Services will be held Friday, 10:00 AM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Rev. Brian Etthridge officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Friends will be received Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home, Poland where a Masonic service will be held at 7:00 PM.
