Poland-Elizabeth J. "Betty" Evans, 92, died Sunday morning, February 10, 2019 at her residence.
Elizabeth, affectionately known as "Betty" was born February 12, 1926 in Kansas City, Missouri, a daughter of James and Edna (Thach) McCown.
Raised in Kansas City, she was a 1942 graduate of East High School. She formerly worked for TWA Airlines in Missouri and later as a Civil Service Supervisor of Research for Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, retiring after over 30 years of service. After retirement, she moved to Osceola, Arkansas to be closer to family.
While in Osceola, she volunteered much of her time as a pink lady at the Osceola Memorial Hospital and worked as a popcorn lady at South Bank. She was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church. After her siblings passed away in Osceola, she relocated to Poland five years ago to live with her dear friend Beverly McCarragher and her family.
Betty was full of creativity and enjoyed oil painting, writing poetry, and also enjoyed setting up quilt exhibits for her aunt.
Betty is survived by her friend and caregiver, Beverly McCarragher and her husband Ed of Poland; her adopted grandchildren, Elizabeth McCarragher, David Dunn, and Matthew McCarragher; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Bill McCown and sister, Thelma Viles.
A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel at St. Luke Catholic Church, 5235 South Avenue, Boardman. Friends will be received on Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service.
