Elizabeth “Betty” Gutierrez (Yakubov) age 84, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away February 21 following a long illness. Betty was born in Campbell, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Yakubov and the youngest of seven children. She was a 1952 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and was employed at GE’s Youngstown Lamp Plant. Betty was the devoted wife of the late Herman Gutierrez . She will be dearly missed by her children, Dr. James Gutierrez (Patricia) of Bay Village, Ohio, and Beth Ann McHugh (Mark) of Dublin, Ohio, and her grandchildren, Abbey and Alyssa McHugh and Andrew, Emma, and Elise Gutierrez.
She was an avid reader and long-time school library and parish office volunteer at St. Charles in Boardman. She loved her faith, family, and friends, who will remember her famous chocolate chip cookies and spaghetti dinners.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Andrew Yakubov (Mary), Mary Burek (John), John Yakubov, Joseph Yakubov (Millie), Dorothy Rider (George) and Helen Badurik (Frank).
A prayer service will be held 9:15 Tuesday February 26, 2019 at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street, Boardman, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Worthington Christian Village, 165 Highbluffs Blvd., Worthington, Ohio 43235. Betty’s family would like to thank the wonderful 7th floor staff there for their compassion.
