Youngstown - Elinor Louise Wire, 81, of Youngstown, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Hampton Woods. Elinor was born September 7, 1926 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of William and Ethel Rees Sylvis. A 1944 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Elinor worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube from 1944 to 1958. Her first love was her family and she was a true homemaker. Elinor's second love was her church. She was a life-long member of Faith Community Church and was one of the oldest baptized members of the church. She also sang in the choir for 57 years, taught Sunday School for 25 years, and was actively involved with the church's Love Pantry. Elinor was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 36 years and she was a member of the Merrymakers Square Dance Club. She also was a member of the 500 Club, which was a card club that has met continuously since 1941 and included elementary school classmates. She leaves her husband, Russell, whom she married August 12, 1955; one daughter, Janet (Clay) Newman of Hartville; two sons, Dale (Julia) Wire of Reynoldsburg and Jerry L. Wire of Youngstown; five grandchildren, Christopher, Katie, and Hannah Newman and Rachel and Deborah Wire; her brother, Jimmie Sylvis of Youngstown; and the family dog, Harley. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Bryan Newman. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd, with Rev. Gary Marcy officiating. Interment will follow at Poland Riverside Cemetery. Friends will be received today from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
